The Dress

Absolutely beautiful vintage wedding dress from the1950s Ivory Satin & Chantilly Lace Gown, 50s Designer Maurer Original.
Purchased from the United States.

Professionally altered (sleeves removed, waistline straightened, taken in, buttons replaced) by award winning NZ designer Alison Blain.
Beautiful long train, beading around neckline and buttoned back.

No boning so very comfortable to wear. Wore on a 35-degree day (woo!!) and didn't feel overheated. The lace is soft to the touch. Not a heavy dress.

Lost a bit of weight right before the wedding, might have been sz 6 on the day? Usually wear an 8 , so was a loose fit. I'm 164cm tall and wore heels.

I absolutely loved wearing this dress. It is very comfortable, the train is amaaazing, and would suit many different wedding styles including formal, romantic, country, rustic, beach or ballroom.

As this is a 70 year old dress, so there are a couple of features which make it unique and beautiful. There are a couple of tiny tears in the lace, which are non-obvious, and twp small slightly yellowed marks on the lace about 1 x 1.5cm on the back of the skirt, which again is pretty unnoticeable, especially when on. Beading around neckline is very delicate and original to the dress, the occasional bead is missing but this is not obvious at all.

Please note : Due to age of dress and sequins, this dress cannot be drycleaned. It has been hand washed since being worn. It will need to be stored in a dry environment protected from light. Any moisture can bring out age marks in old satin over time.
